A character can be many things –
It may be the fictionalization of the mind, or the facets of many humans rolled into one; even the symbol of a person the author once knew.
Take Rhia Bryant for instance –
She could be (and I stress the word could) a materialization of this world’s young women. A little of all of us at that certain time in life when curiosity, more than common sense, takes over, compelling us to dip our toes into that river of mystery. By contrasting this character with those of a more restrained nature light and shade is brought into your writing. It is this comparison of character that builds a mystery, and hopefully holds the reader’s interest.
